To get the real reason why timeshare owners are making this decision, the magazine went to the source and interviewed over a dozen of these owners. Here is what the magazine reported:

• Over a quarter of prospective sellers interviewed, stated the reason for selling was “aging.” Many timeshare owners are elderly and simply don’t have the desire to vacation as often as they did in the past.
• One timeshare owner mentioned that their timeshare destination has become too ‘touristy’ in recent years, and they lost interest in the property.
• Many owners cited increasing annual maintenance fees and an increase in travel costs overall made timeshare ownership a financial burden.
• Finally lifestyle adjustments like illnesses or job transfers rounded off the reasons to get out of timeshare contracts.

Although timeshare owners were looking to sell, many timeshare owners had good things to say about ownership at their timeshare resort. Many sellers owned more than one timeshare and were looking to trim down inventory, instead of giving up on timeshares all together. Timeshares simply aren’t for everyone, but for those who enjoy them love vacationing to their timeshare destination every year.
